The City College of Cagayan de Oro marked another milestone in its commitment to inclusive education with the successful validation and official launch of the Alternative Learning System Weekend Bridging Academy (ALS WBA) on July 27, 2026, at the AV Room, reinforcing the institution's dedication to expanding accessible educational opportunities for learners pursuing alternative pathways to higher education.

The ALS WBA is a specialized preparatory program co-designed by CCCDO and DepEd CDO for ALS learners to strengthen core academic competencies, especially focusing on subjects like English, Science, and Mathematics. This program aims to equip ALS learners for higher education or future career transitions, bridging critical gaps for out-of-school youth and adult learners by reinforcing foundational competencies.

The event commenced with the presentation of the validation team, followed by a comprehensive discussion of the validation process in accordance with DepEd Order No. 7, s. 2025, presented by Dr. Jean S. Macasero, Chief Education Supervisor for Curriculum Implementation of DepEd Cagayan de Oro. The validation assessed the institution's readiness and compliance with the standards set for implementing the ALS Weekend Bridging Academy.

Subsequently, Dr. Rosalio R. Vitorillo presented the validation team's findings, recognizing the institution's preparedness to implement the program and its commitment to delivering quality educational services for ALS learners.

One of the highlights of the event was the awarding of the Certificate of Recognition to the City College of Cagayan de Oro as an Implementing ALS provider, conferred by Dr. Roy Angelo E. Gazo, CESO V, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Cagayan de Oro. The recognition affirms the college's compliance with national standards and its readiness to provide accessible learning opportunities for ALS completers seeking to continue their educational journey.

Through the Center for Alternative Learning System (CALS), and with the leadership of Dr. Ray Butch Mahinay, Vice President for Research and Extension, and the collective efforts of academic and institutional partners, the launch of the program reinforced CCCDO's mission of making quality higher education more inclusive, responsive, and accessible to diverse learners, creating new opportunities for lifelong learning and educational advancement within the community.
